Tom stands tall on his hind legs, one hand raised and wiggling in the air, eyes squeezed shut and head tipped back. His other hand is tucked against his chest with the fingers crossed. Down in the corner, Jerry stands with his arms folded and brows furrowed, a little exclamation mark above his head, plainly not buying it. The room has a plank wooden floor, a folded newspaper on the ground, a small cabinet and a flower in a decorated vase on the left, and a tall door frame on the right. The big open shapes on Tom's body are easy for small hands to fill in. Soft blue-gray for Tom, light brown for Jerry and a bright red or pink flower would work well. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the wooden floor in honey orange with long strokes that follow the planks, leaving the newspaper for later.
- 2Fill the cat's head, neck, arms, and body with cool gray, and the cat's belly and the newspaper pages with light gray.
- 3Color the cabinet, its top and base in chestnut brown and wheat tan, and the vase in sky blue, then add the green leaves of the plant in leaf green.
- 4Fill the mouse's body in chestnut brown, its belly in soft peach, and its face and hand in pale cream, then color the inside of its ear in coral pink.
- 5Add the golden yellow spot on the cat's forehead and the steel blue baseboards along the wall, and leave the cat's gloved hands, feet, tail tip, and eye highlights white.
- 6Optional: add a few darker cool gray strokes along the cat's shaded side and under the cabinet to give the drawing more depth.
