A striped kitten naps on a windowsill, eyes closed with a little smile, one paw draped over the edge and a long ringed tail hanging down. Out the window is a quiet night: a crescent moon, five small stars, a cottage with a scaled roof, a chimney and a four-pane window, plus a couple of rounded bushes and another rooftop behind. Stripes, fluffy cheek fur and whiskers give kids plenty of detail, and the large sky and roof areas are easy to fill. Warm orange and cream for the tabby, deep blue or purple for the sky and bright yellow for the moon and stars would be a good combination. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the cat's body and head with tabby orange, leaving the front paw and right paw white.
- 2Fill the crescent moon and the window panes with golden yellow.
- 3Color the plant leaves with leaf green and forest green, adding sage green to the stems.
- 4Fill the roofs with brick red, the chimneys with medium gray and light gray, and the flower pot with terracotta brown.
- 5Color the bush with forest green and the house walls and windowsill with cream and pale tan, keeping the background white.
- 6Optional: Add darker shading in the cat's stripes and under the leaves with a slightly deeper shade of the same colors for depth.
