Here's Fred Flintstone with a hand on his hip and a big grin, dressed up in the shaggy black horned buffalo hat he wears to his lodge meetings. The hat is a solid black shape with two curved horns and a small round emblem on the front. He's also in his spotted caveman tunic with a jagged hem, a pointed tie at the collar, and bare feet. Nothing is behind him, so a child can focus on Fred. The big black hat leaves less to color, so the tunic's triangle spots and wide outline are where small hands get busy. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the big tunic shape at the center of the drawing with bright orange, working around the dark spots, which stay as they are.
- 2Color the face, nose, both arms, both legs, feet and hands with soft peach, keeping the eyes and eye whites untouched.
- 3Fill both horns with ivory cream, but leave a small white shine on the right horn tip and a white spot on the hat ornament.
- 4Color the wide neckerchief around the neck in caramel tan, then fill the hanging tail and the bow tie knot in chestnut brown.
- 5Leave the shaggy hair uncolored so it stays bold black, then go back and check that all the white highlights still stand out.
- 6Optional: Add light, quick shading with a slightly darker tone of orange on the tunic edges and peach under the chin to give the figure more depth.
