Three smiling bees buzz around a big dome-shaped skep hive. The hive is made of thick stacked rings with a small arched doorway at the bottom, and it rests on a plain wooden stand with a plank top and two sturdy legs. Two bees hover in the top corners while a smaller one flies in from the right, all with round eyes, curly antennae, striped bodies and big wings. Rounded-petal flowers with leafy stems fill both lower corners, grass tufts poke up by the stand, and a few puffy bushes sit behind the hive. Wide, bold outlines are good for little hands and chunky crayons. Golden yellow and soft orange on the hive rings, plus pink, purple and blue flowers, will make the bees show up. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the big beehive body bands and the stacked skep sections with honey yellow, leaving thin black lines between them.
- 2Fill the dome on top of the hive with golden orange, and color the bee stripes and flower centers with bright yellow.
- 3Color the wooden stand, its legs and the hive ledge with wood brown, then fill the arched entrance with dark brown.
- 4Paint the bee wings with pale blue, the small flowers with sky blue, the large flowers with bubblegum pink, and the purple flowers with orchid purple.
- 5Fill the leaves with leaf green, light green and grass green, and color the bee heads with honey yellow; keep the eyes and shine spots white. Optional: Add a little darker shading along the bottom edges of the hive bands for depth.
