Under a big leafy tree, three smiling kids share a picnic on a checkered blanket. A short-haired boy on the left holds an apple, a girl in the middle with long braids and puffy sleeves nibbles a cookie, and a girl on the right with a headband and bow holds a muffin. In front of them, a woven basket is packed with apples, grapes, bananas and cupcakes. Three ducks paddle on a calm pond behind them, with reeds, grassy banks, bushes and a small village with a church steeple far off. This free printable has lots of detail for crayons or colored pencils. Bright reds, yellows and purples would suit the fruit in the basket, with soft blues for the pond and golden-yellow ducks. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the lake and the water ripples in sky blue, leaving the sky and the duck bodies white.
- 2Fill the tree leaves with forest green and leaf green, then color the trunk and branches tan brown and the grass with lime green.
- 3Color the boy's shirt and shorts bright blue, the middle girl's dress and skirt yellow, and the right girl's dress rose pink with a cherry red ribbon.
- 4Add skin in light tan on the faces, arms and legs, leaving the eye whites, the collar of the middle girl's dress and the sky white. Color the boy's hair chocolate brown, the middle girl's hair dark orange and the right girl's hair golden yellow.
- 5Finish the picnic blanket with pale peach and salmon checks, then color the basket tan brown, the apples cherry red, and the bananas and muffins yellow. Optional: add a few darker strokes along the tree trunk and the lake edges for depth.
