Hippie Stroll and Open Manhole, Tom and Jerry Page
Coloring guide
Tom the cat is laughing as he walks alongside a bearded man wearing a headband, a peace sign medallion and a long fringed scarf. The man holds a notepad or screen in one hand and glances over, looking surprised. Down in front, Jerry the mouse smiles while pushing a round manhole cover off a dark open hole in the ground. A low wall, tufts of grass, rolling hills and puffy clouds sit behind them. There are lots of big open areas for younger kids, and the beard, scarf fringe and peace sign give older kids finer detail. Classic blue-gray works for Tom, and a bright yellow or rainbow look is fun for the medallion. Print or download it free for a classroom project or a weekend craft. Looking for more? A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big background areas: color the sky-free grass hills and trees in leaf green and light green, and the sandy ground in pale sand.
- 2Fill the sidewalk wall and beard in pale gray, keeping the sky wisps white.
- 3Color the hippie's jeans and the manhole cover in ocean blue, and his vest and accordion in warm brown with a dark brown accordion bottom.
- 4Paint Tom's body in blue gray, his belly in pale gray, and his ears inside in soft pink; leave his eyes, open mouth, and feet white.
- 5Finish the details: make the hippie's headband bright red, his face and hands peach, Jerry's head warm brown with a deep red bowtie, and the manhole rim old gold.
- 6Optional: Add a few darker strokes in the same colors along the edges of the jeans and the vest to make them look a bit more shaded.
