Three sea turtles glide through the water here, one big turtle at the top and two smaller ones below. Each has a round head, shiny wide eyes, a little smile and flippers dotted with small circles. The shells are patchwork-style panels with a scalloped border around the edge, so there are lots of sections to fill in. Round bubbles of different sizes float around them, and short wavy lines show the water moving. Big shapes and bold lines work well for preschoolers and early elementary kids with crayons or markers. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color all three turtle heads, bodies and flippers lime green, leaving the big shiny eye whites and the small highlight spots on the flippers white.
- 2Fill the large center plates of the big turtle's shell with dark brown, then color the outer shell plates of all three shells caramel brown.
- 3Color the rim and edge plates around the shells butter yellow, and use light tan for the plates along the top edges of the shells.
- 4Color the dark green spots on the big turtle's front flipper with forest green, leaving the white dots untouched.
- 5Color the round bubbles and leave the wavy lines and background white so the turtles really stand out in sky blue water.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of dark brown along the edges of the shells and a little forest green on the flippers to add depth.
