Turtle Meets a Pair of Floating Jellyfish

Heading straight toward you with a big open-mouth smile and wide sparkly eyes, this baby sea turtle has company. Two cheerful jellyfish float above it, each with a dotted bell and long wavy tentacles, and small bubbles drift through the water around them. Down on the sandy seafloor you'll see two starfish, a spiral seashell, a few rounded rocks and tall strands of seaweed on both sides. The shell has big sections to fill in, and little spots cover the flippers and head, which makes for good careful-coloring practice. Soft greens suit the shell and flippers, and pink or purple helps the jellyfish stand out from the water. There's plenty of room on the page, so print a few extra copies. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the turtle's head, body and flippers light green, leaving the white spots on the head and flippers white.
- 2Fill the large shell plates with caramel brown and dark brown, and the border plates with golden yellow.
- 3Color the turtle's neck and belly butter yellow, and the lower shell edge golden yellow.
- 4Color the two jellyfish bells lavender and bubblegum pink, then add violet purple to some of the tentacles, leaving the thin tentacle edges white.
- 5Fill the seaweed and the flipper spots with leaf green, the rocks with light gray, and the starfish and conch shell with tangerine orange, adding peach to the shell opening.
- 6Color the bubbles sky blue and keep the eye shine and tiny highlights white. Optional: add a slightly darker stripe on one side of each seaweed blade for depth.
