Three smiling turtles are stacked like a little tower on a floating log. The biggest sits at the bottom, a medium one is in the middle and a tiny one perches on top. Every shell has its own pattern: hexagon panels on the largest, round polka dots on the middle turtle and small stars on the baby. In the bottom right corner, a cheerful frog on a lily pad looks up at them. Cattails and tall grass frame both sides, and water lilies float on the rippled pond. Big shapes and clear outlines suit preschoolers, and the patterned shells give older kids something to focus on. Give each turtle its own shade of green or teal, and save bright pink or purple for the water lilies. It's a free printable for a quiet afternoon or a nature lesson. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big tree log and the two cattails in chestnut brown, leaving the bright spiral ends a little lighter if you like.
- 2Fill the pond water on both sides in sky blue, then color the two grassy reeds in grass green and leaf green.
- 3Color the turtles' bodies, legs and the frog in leaf green, using lime green for the top turtle's head and shell edge.
- 4Fill the big green shell hexagons in forest green and the rims in golden yellow, then add the orange and amber spots to the middle shell.
- 5Color the lily pads in forest green, the lily flowers in rose pink and light pink, and the top turtle's star shell in bright blue with lemon yellow stars.
- 6Optional: Add a little shading with a darker shade of each color, and keep the eye whites and small highlights as bare paper.
