Twirling Young Mermaid in a Starburst, The Little Mermaid
Coloring guide
A young mermaid with a long, swooshing ponytail tumbles through the water, arms flung wide and a surprised, happy look on her face. Her tail curls into a spinning spiral, ringed by swirling ripples and lots of little bubbles. A big jagged starburst of light fills the space behind her, which gives the page a magical, splashy feel. Down in the lower right corner, a round locket with a tiny picture inside floats on a wavy chain. Small hands can handle the large shapes in the tail and burst, and older kids can take on the bubbles and ripples. Teal and purple stripes on the tail look good, with soft yellow in the burst so it glows. Print it at home, and maybe keep a few extra copies close by. A gentle color plan to get started — mix in your own anytime.
- sky blue
- chestnut brown
- emerald green
- peach
- orchid purple
- golden yellow
A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big blue starburst behind the mermaid: color the splashy background areas and the water trail with sky blue, leaving the outer white space and the bubble shine untouched.
- 2Fill the mermaid's long ponytail and hair with chestnut brown, keeping the small bright highlight streaks on the hair white.
- 3Color the mermaid's tail and fins with emerald green, working from the top of the tail down to the fin tips.
- 4Add peach to the face, arms, hand and the neck of the bottle, leaving the eye whites and teeth white.
- 5Use orchid purple for the mermaid's top and bow, then golden yellow for the bottle body and its round base.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker blue along the edges of the starburst and a second layer of green on the tail for a bit more depth.
