Two little penguins stand side by side on a chunky block of ice, flippers up in a cheerful wave. Right in front of them, a big smiling whale pops out of the rippling water and sends a fountain of droplets into the air. Three seagulls glide among puffy clouds above, and rocky, jagged icebergs rise along the far horizon. Smaller ice chunks dot the waves, and the whale has little spots on its head and long grooves along its belly. Big open areas are perfect for little hands, with smaller details like the water drops for older kids. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the sea: color the large water areas and waves in ocean blue, and the splashing waves near the whale in bright blue.
- 2Color the whale's body in slate blue, then fill its mouth area with coral pink and leave the eye white with a dark pupil.
- 3Color the penguins' heads, wings and backs in charcoal gray, keeping their bellies, eye whites and the snowy ice top white.
- 4Fill the icebergs, ice cliffs, mountains and clouds in light sky blue and pale blue, using very pale blue for the lightest ice highlights.
- 5Add the water spout and its droplets in light sky blue, and color the seagulls' wings and the small ice chunks as you like, leaving the white parts bright.
- 6Optional: add a few light strokes of darker blue along the whale and waves to give them a little depth.
