Two Goldfish and Water Lilies, Chinese New Year Pond

Two cheerful goldfish glide through a pond in this sweet scene. Each has big shiny eyes, a happy smile and rows of rounded scales, and their long flowing tails and delicate fins ripple behind them in lots of curved lines. Nearby are two blooming water lilies on tall stems, several flat lily pads with radiating veins, plus soft ripple lines and little oval dashes across the water. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the lily pads in leaf green, including the big pads at the bottom left and right, the top-left pad, and the small pad at the bottom.
- 2Fill the two goldfish bodies and heads with golden yellow, and color the top-right and bottom-left lotus flowers in rose pink for the outer petals.
- 3Paint the fish tails and fins in burnt orange and tangerine, then add amber orange to the fish heads and some scales for a warm, layered look.
- 4Color the inner lotus petals in blush pink and the pale lily pad under the top-right lotus in pale blue, then add a touch of sky blue to the small water ripple at the top.
- 5Leave the fish eyes, the lotus centers' highlights and the water background white, then add details like lily stems and fin lines with a darker pencil.
- 6Optional: Layer two shades on the tails, starting light and adding deeper orange in the middle to make them look more flowing.
