Sumo Wrestlers Face Off in a Martial Arts Ring

Two cheerful sumo wrestlers grab each other's belts in the middle of a round ring, knees bent, leaning forward with big grins. Each has a topknot, a thick mawashi belt with a hanging front flap, and bare feet planted on the ground. A low wall separates the ring from the audience: on the left a boy, a woman with a hair bun and another child, and on the right a man, a woman with long hair and a small child. Everyone is smiling and watching. Short straight lines on the floor mark the starting spots, and a rope-style circle edges the ring. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the wrestlers' bodies, arms, legs and feet with skin tone, keeping the eye whites and the small highlights white.
- 2Fill the ring floor, the back edge and the ring border stripes with tan wood, leaving the two white floor lines near the bottom empty.
- 3Color the wrestlers' hair and topknots charcoal black, and the spectators' hair in dark brown and chestnut brown.
- 4Paint the left wrestler's belt bright blue and the right wrestler's belt bright red, including the hanging flaps at the front.
- 5Dress the spectators in forest green, bright blue, soft pink, lavender purple and golden yellow, and add slate blue to the collar of the spectator on the far left.
- 6Optional: add light shading with a slightly darker tan wood along the ring edges and a touch of terracotta on the shadowed sides of the skin for a little depth.
