Standing with both arms stretched straight out to the sides, an umpire in a catcher-style face mask and chest protector makes the call. Next to him, a smiling young batter holds his bat upright on his shoulder, ready to swing. The boy wears a batting helmet with an ear flap, a button-up jersey, striped pants, tall socks and sneakers. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big grass areas on the left and right and the lower field in grass green, leaving the home plate white.
- 2Color the dark green backdrop behind the fence and the bushes on both sides in forest green and bright green.
- 3Fill the umpire's chest protector and helmet area in midnight blue and dark gray, then color his shirt sleeves in sky blue and the cuffs in royal blue.
- 4Color the umpire's pants and the batter's helmet in medium gray and bright red, and add the bat in wood tan.
- 5Use peach skin for faces, arms and hands, and golden yellow for the fence rails.
- 6Optional: Add a little charcoal black to the shoes and a touch of darker gray on the mask for depth, leaving the batter's white shirt and pants bright.
