Coloring guide
In the middle of a happy circle of children, a boy drums on a big dhol that hangs from a strap at his waist, a stick in each hand. Four more kids dance around him with joined hands or raised arms. There are two girls with long braids and flowers in their hair, a boy in a wrapped headband, and a boy in a kurta waving his arm. The girls' flowing skirts have flower and border patterns. Paper lanterns, triangle bunting and flower garlands hang overhead. In the background are thatched-roof huts, a fence, bushes and a palm tree, and flower clusters fill the bottom corners. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the ground and grass: fill the big open area and the small grass tufts with pale lime green, then add leaf green to the bushes and trees around the village.
- 2Color the thatched roofs of both huts in straw tan, and fill the hut walls and fence posts with cream or leave them lightly tinted.
- 3Fill all the faces, arms and legs with peach skin, then color the hair of the drummer in dark chocolate brown and the braids in the same dark tone.
- 4Dress the characters: use sky blue for the right boy's shirt and vest, sunny yellow for the drummer's shirt and the left girl's sash, violet purple for the central girl's dress, bright red for the right girl's skirt and hot pink for the left girl's skirt.
- 5Color the drum body and its straps in warm brown, the drum top in cream, and the drumsticks in warm brown; keep the left boy's shirt, dhoti and pants white, along with the bunting and the sky.
- 6Optional: add a darker shade of each color along one side of the clothes and the drum to make the dancers look more rounded, and keep the eye whites untouched for a sparkly look.
