A winding stone path climbs to a tall arched gate with two open wooden doors, set between square brick towers with notched battlements. Beyond the wall, a hillside town fills the page with domed buildings, flat-roofed houses, arched windows and two bell towers. Palm trees and tall cypress trees are scattered through town, while a low curved stone wall, leafy bushes, rocks, flowers and a small clay jar sit up front. At the very top, a road curls up a hill to a simple cross, with fluffy clouds in the sky. It suits Good Friday or Easter-season lessons, and the brick patterns and rooftops give older kids lots of detail. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start by filling the big stone walls, gate and buildings with pale gold, leaving the cloud shapes at the top white.
- 2Color the domes and rooftops with coral red, then the jar near the bottom right with burnt orange.
- 3Fill the rocks, the ground patches and the lighter stone buildings with sand beige.
- 4Add the green plants: use forest green for the cypress trees and agave, grass green for the palm fronds and bushes, and light green for the hills and hillside shrubs.
- 5Color the hilltop with khaki and the flowers at the bottom left with olive green.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading on the bushes and palm leaves to make them stand out.
