Wreath and Candles in a Window Under Christmas Lights

A big, fluffy wreath hangs in the middle of a four-pane window, finished with a large bow and little clusters of berries. Above it, a string of bulb-shaped lights drapes across the top of the window frame in two swoops. Outside the glass, snowflakes and round snowy dots fall over soft drifts. Four lit candles of different heights stand in a row on the wooden windowsill, two on each side. The wide wreath, bow and bulbs leave lots of room to color, and the snowflakes are good small-detail practice. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the window panes: color the four large window panes and the upper sky areas with navy blue, leaving the snowflakes and small dots white.
- 2Fill the window frames, the middle bars, the top border and the windowsill with wood brown.
- 3Color the snowdrifts at the bottom of the left and right panes, using pale ice blue for the lighter left drift and light sky blue for the others.
- 4Color the wreath in forest green, then add a few bright green touches to the lights in the center.
- 5Fill the bow, its tails and center knot, the red ornaments, and the candles with cherry red, keeping the candle flames white.
- 6Color the two outer light bulbs and the bulb near the upper right with golden yellow, and the remaining bulbs with cherry red. Optional: add a little darker navy blue along the edges of the panes for depth.
