Big Cow and Little Calf Standing on a Bed of Hay

Coloring guide
A big mother cow looks down with a gentle smile while her little calf stands in front of her, head tilted and eyes wide. Each has a curly tuft of hair on the head, rounded ears and wavy patches across the body. Mom also has two small horns and a long tail ending in a fluffy tuft, and the calf's tail swishes out on the left. They stand together on hand-drawn straw, with short strokes of hay around their hooves. Large patches and simple outlines keep this easy for small hands. Warm brown patches on a cream body for the mother and a lighter tan for the calf would make them look like a matching pair. It's free to print for a quiet, creative moment. - warm cream
- soft pink
- warm brown
- dark gray
- grass green
- pale yellow
A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the patches of grass in grass green, leaving the thin blades of grass that stick out white.
- 2Color the cow's face, muzzle, and ears, plus the calf's muzzle and ears, in soft pink, keeping the eye whites white.
- 3Fill the cow's horns in pale yellow, then color the cow's body patches, tail, and the calf's brown spot and tail in warm brown.
- 4Color the rest of both bodies, the forelocks, and the calf's legs in warm cream, leaving the shiny eye highlights white.
- 5Color all the hooves in dark gray, from the cow's back hoof to the four calf hooves.
- 6Optional: add a slightly darker touch of warm brown along the edges of the brown spots for a little depth.
