Birdhouse Birds with a Peeking Chick

On the wooden perch of a tall birdhouse sits a small songbird, while a smaller, round-faced chick peeks out of the circular hole above it. The birdhouse has a pitched plank roof and stands on a sturdy post. Behind it you'll see a picket fence, rounded bushes, and a garden of daisies and five-petal flowers with leafy stems along the bottom. A smiling butterfly flutters along a dashed flight path in the upper left. Little ones get plenty of detail from the bird's wing feathers and tail, and the large birdhouse boards are easy to fill in. Warm brown for the wood, soft blue on the perched bird's wings, and bright yellow and pink flowers would be pretty. It's a free printable PDF, so print a few extra copies to keep around. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the birdhouse: color the front, left and right walls and the roof in honey brown, and the roof in cherry red.
- 2Color the wooden post, porch floor and perch in dark wood brown, and the ledge pieces under the perch in honey brown.
- 3Fill the fence pickets and boards in light tan, then add a khaki touch to the fence board near the middle and olive green to the far left picket.
- 4Paint the bird's head sky blue and its belly cream, then color the chick peeking from the hole golden yellow.
- 5Add the grass and bushes in bright green, darker leaves in forest green and a lime green leaf on the far left.
- 6Color the pink flowers and the butterfly in hot pink, and fill the daisy centers with golden yellow, leaving the daisy petals white. Optional: add a slightly darker shade along the right side of the birdhouse for depth.
