Happy Duckling Floating by Cattails and Lily Pads

Here is a cheerful baby duck out for a float on a pond, ready to print and color for free. The duckling has big round eyes, a tuft of feathers on its head and an open, smiling beak, and its head turns to one side. One wing has feather details and a few small tail feathers stick out at the back. Ripple lines circle the duck to show the water. On the right stand two tall cattails with leafy stems, and two flat lily pads sit on the water up front. Thick, clear outlines and roomy spaces help preschoolers and early elementary kids still working on pencil control. Soft yellow for the body, orange for the beak and brown cattail heads look nice against light blue water and bright green lily pads. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start by filling the whole duck, including the head, body, wings and tail, with golden yellow, leaving the eye whites white.
- 2Color the beak with tangerine orange, then fill the open mouth with coral pink.
- 3Fill both cattails with cattail brown, keeping the thin green-free stalks and leaves as white background.
- 4Color the two lily pads with fresh green, leaving the veins and water ripple lines white.
- 5Keep the eye whites, the water and the background white so the duck stands out clearly.
- 6Optional: add a little darker yellow along the lower edges of the body and wings to give the duck a bit of depth.
