A wide-eyed baby chick peeks from a cracked eggshell, its two little paws resting on the jagged broken edge. The top half of the shell sits tilted on its head like a hat, with a small tuft of feathers poking up between the pieces. It has big shiny eyes, a tiny open beak that looks like a happy smile and fluffy feathers around its cheeks. At the bottom, the egg sits in a nest of loose straw. Large simple shapes and bold outlines suit preschoolers and early elementary kids, and the shell leaves plenty of open space for patterns. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the chick's head and body bright yellow, including the fluffy tuft on top, and fill both wings with the same yellow.
- 2Color the top eggshell half, the bottom eggshell and the broken pieces on the left and right sky blue.
- 3Fill the straw nest with golden tan so it looks like a cozy base under the eggshell.
- 4Color the beak orange and the open mouth coral pink, leaving a thin white line around the mouth.
- 5Fill the pupils black and keep the eye whites and the small shine spots white so the eyes look bright and wide.
- 6Optional: Add a light gray strip along the inside edge of the broken top shell to make it look more like a real eggshell.
