Floppy ears, pointy teeth and a curly tail belong to the big grinning monster floating behind a small owl, both claws raised in a playful "boo!" pose. The owl perches on a wooden fence post and grips the edge with tiny feet. It has huge round eyes, a little beak, scalloped chest feathers and neat wings. Plank fence posts with wood-grain knots stretch across the bottom, with grass tufts behind them and leafy bushes in the corners. Large open shapes are good for younger kids, and the feathers and wood grain give older kids more to detail. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the owl's head and chest light tan, leaving the big round eyes and the chest lines white.
- 2Fill the owl's wings with warm brown and color its beak and claws golden yellow.
- 3Color the monster's mouth coral red, add dark maroon inside the mouth shadow, and leave the teeth white.
- 4Color the monster's ear grass green and its left claws pale green and pale lime, keeping the body and eyes white.
- 5Fill the fence posts and rails with light wood brown, the gaps between posts with cream, and the bushes with forest green and grass green.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker brown to the edges of the owl's wings and the fence posts to make them look more rounded and wooden.
