This cheerful hen stands with her body turned sideways and her head facing us, with big round eyes, an open smiling beak, a wavy comb and a wattle under her chin. Fluffy chest feathers, a layered wing and fanned tail feathers give kids plenty of shapes to fill. Next to her is a woven basket with a braided handle, piled with smooth eggs. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the chicken's head, neck and face area cream, leaving the eye whites and the small shine spots in the eyes white.
- 2Fill the chicken's body and tail with caramel brown, then shade the wing with dark brown.
- 3Color the comb and the wattle bright red, and the beak and the legs and feet golden yellow.
- 4Color the basket with caramel brown for the weave, pale tan and warm tan for the rope rim and handle, and leave the space inside the handle white.
- 5Fill the eggs with hot pink, lilac purple, sky blue, leaf green, orange and golden yellow, color the flowerpot sky blue and the leaves leaf green, and keep the flower petals white.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of dark brown along the chicken's body and basket for a bit of depth.
