Two round little chicks perch side by side on a blossoming branch. The one on the left holds a tiny flower up toward its friend's beak. They both have big sparkly eyes, small tufts of feathers on their heads, and open, smiling beaks. The chick on the right has long eyelashes and tilts its head as if listening carefully. The branch curves across the bottom of the page with large leaves and two five-petal flowers, one at the left and one at the lower right. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big bird bodies: color the left bird's head and tail in sky blue, and the right bird's head in soft yellow.
- 2Fill the left bird's belly with pale blue, leaving the white feet and the white flower it holds unpainted.
- 3Color the branch warm brown, and paint the leaves and blue feathers in grass green and sky blue, keeping the thin light stripe on the branch white.
- 4Add the flower petals in soft pink and the flower centers in bright yellow, then use golden orange for the beaks and the right bird's wing and tail feathers.
- 5Keep the eye whites and the background white. Optional: add light shading with a slightly darker tone along the edges of the birds and leaves for depth.
