Chick Wearing an Eggshell Hat in an Easter Basket
Coloring guide
Here's a round, fluffy chick sitting up in a woven basket with a jagged piece of eggshell still on its head like a tiny hat. It has big shiny eyes, a small open beak in a happy smile, a tuft of feathers on top of its cheeks, and scalloped feathers across its chest. The wings rest at its sides, and two little feet poke out over a nest of grass or straw tucked inside the basket rim. The brick-style weave has lots of large sections, which are easy for small hands to color. One whole egg sits on the ground beside the basket. Soft yellow works for the chick, orange for the beak and feet, and the basket could be pastel stripes or a warm brown. Save the free PDF for a fun afternoon activity. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the chick's round body and fluffy head with golden yellow, leaving the two big eye whites bright white.
- 2Fill the cracked eggshell hat and the egg lying beside the basket with sky blue.
- 3Color the beak and both little feet orange, and add a berry pink tongue inside the open mouth.
- 4Add pale yellow to the wings and the straw tufts around the nest, then fill the basket with warm brown.
- 5Color some of the basket bricks in the middle rows light tan so the weave stands out, and leave the background white.
- 6Optional: add light shading along the bottom of the chick and the basket with a slightly darker tone of the same color for depth.
