Crowing Chicken on a Haystack Beside the Barn

On top of a big mound of hay, a proud rooster stands with his beak wide open mid-crow and his wings spread out to the sides. His tall comb, wattle and long curved tail feathers give kids lots of different shapes to color. Behind him is a wooden barn with a round window and a big X-braced door, plus a wooden barrel, a cart with a wheel and a simple fence. Fluffy clouds and bushy trees fill the sky and background, and a few flowers and grass tufts sit in the bottom corners. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the haystack golden yellow, leaving the thin straw strokes white so they look like loose straw.
- 2Fill the rooster's big body and chest with rich brown, then color the wings and neck feathers orange.
- 3Color the long tail feathers with ocean blue and teal blue, adding deep teal in the darker curves.
- 4Paint the barn walls and roof bright red, leave the plank gaps white, and fill the round window glass with sky blue.
- 5Color the grass and bushes with grass green and lime green, the tree with light green, and the sky clouds with pale sky blue.
- 6Optional: add a little darker shading in deep teal and rich brown along the edges of the tail and wings for extra depth.
