Crown of Thorns and Roses Before a Good Friday Cross
Coloring guide
A large three-dimensional cross stands upright with straight rays of light fanning out behind it. In front, a woven crown of thorns rests on a plump tufted pillow with a tassel at each bottom corner. Three roses grow around the crown, two in full bloom and one still a bud on a slender stem, along with lots of pointed leaves. The thorns are small spikes along the twisted branches, which gives little hands some fun detail to color around. Soft reds or pinks suit the roses, fresh greens the leaves, and a warm yellow wash can fill the spaces between the rays. The pillow would look lovely in purple or deep blue. Print this sheet at home and add it to your collection. More like this: explore the Good Friday, Sugar Skulls (Día de Muertos) and Matryoshka Dolls coloring page collections.

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big cushion: color the cushion main body and lower cushion in deep red, leaving the thin cord edges for later.
- 2Fill the wooden cross, including the cross stem, with warm brown, then add the thorn vines in warm brown and dark brown, leaving the light thorn highlights white.
- 3Color the roses in coral red, working from the big left rose to the right rose and the small rose bud, leaving the tiny highlights in the petals white.
- 4Paint all the leaves in leaf green, including the stems on the left and right.
- 5Color the tassels and the tassel cords golden yellow, then add the thorn points and the details in the crown with the same brown tones.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading to the cushion edges and the lower side of the roses for depth, and leave the background white for a bright glow.
