Butterfly Landing on a Raccoon's Nose

Coloring guide
Sitting upright in the grass, a smiling baby raccoon turns its big eyes toward a butterfly that has landed right on the tip of its nose. It has large round ears, a fluffy cheek ruff, a classic mask around the eyes and a big ringed tail curling up behind. A few daisy-like flowers with round centers and small grass tufts along the bottom finish the scene. Bold, clean outlines and roomy shapes make it easy for preschoolers and early elementary kids, and the fur tufts and tail stripes give older children detail to work on. Soft grays for the fur and dark charcoal for the mask and tail rings look good, and purple or orange wings will make the butterfly stand out. Print this free page at home or in the classroom. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the raccoon's head top, ears, body, legs and the main tail with medium gray, leaving the chest and face patch uncolored for now.
- 2Color the chest fur and the face patch in cream, keeping the eye whites and the flower petals white.
- 3Use charcoal gray for the dark eye mask, the darkest tail bands and the eye pupils, then add slate gray to the paws.
- 4Fill the inside of both ears with soft pink for a cozy touch.
- 5Color the butterfly's upper and lower wings in golden yellow and add bright orange to its outer wing edges and spots.
- 6Fill the flower centers with golden yellow and leave the petals and grass white. Optional: add a little light shading under the raccoon's tail to make it look rounder.
