Hugging a big tree trunk, this smiling young raccoon grips the bark with its front paws and one back foot and glances over its shoulder with wide, shiny eyes. The fluffy fur, pointed ears and bushy ringed tail hang down behind it. Wavy-edged oak leaves grow around the trunk, with two small groups of acorns, one at the upper left and one near the lower right. Long wavy lines on the bark add plenty of texture to color. Soft grays and charcoal suit the fur, dark brown works for the mask and tail rings, and the trunk can be warm brown. Acorns look nice in golden brown, and the leaves in green or orange. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the tree trunk and branches in bark brown, leaving the lines of bark texture visible.
- 2Fill the raccoon's head, body, arms and ears with medium gray, keeping the eye shines white.
- 3Color all the oak leaves in leaf green and the acorns in golden tan, leaving the small acorn highlights white.
- 4Use cream white for the light tail bands and the light area around the face, then add charcoal gray to the dark tail bands and the mask around the eyes.
- 5Fill the inner parts of the ears with soft pink and add the dark pupils and eye details in charcoal gray.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker gray along the belly and tail edges for a soft, fluffy shadow, and leave the background white.
