Dad and Child Skateboarding Lesson in the Park

Crouching beside his little one, a smiling dad holds both of the child's hands so they can stay steady on a skateboard. The child has on a round helmet with vent slots, a short-sleeved t-shirt, shorts and sneakers, and looks up with a wide-open grin. Dad wears a relaxed t-shirt, long pants and sneakers, and looks just as pleased. A big leafy tree stands on the left, rounded bushes are on the right, and there's a curved path, tufts of grass and two simple flowers in the corners. The shapes are large and the lines are clean, so younger kids who like bold outlines can enjoy it, and older ones can add their own detail. Red or blue for the helmet and skateboard will make the first-time rider easy to spot against soft green grass. It's a nice pick for a quiet afternoon or a father-and-child craft session. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the tree trunk warm brown, then fill the tree leaves, bushes and grass with grass green, adding light green to the lighter patches of grass.
- 2Fill dad's shirt and the child's helmet with bright blue, and color dad's pants and the child's shorts with tan and royal blue.
- 3Color the child's shirt red, the skateboard charcoal gray, and its wheels red, then shade the path with pale gray.
- 4Fill the faces, hands, arms and ears with light peach and peach orange, and color both dad's and the child's hair dark brown, leaving the eye whites and flower petals white.
- 5Color the child's shoes bright blue, dad's shoes medium gray, and leave the laces and socks white for a clean look.
- 6Optional: Add a slightly darker shade of each color along one side of the shapes to give the drawing a little depth.
