Easter Chicken Hen with Decorated Eggs

Sitting in the grass with a fluffy comb, big round eyes and an open-beaked smile, this hen has three decorated Easter eggs lined up at the front. One has polka dots, one has horizontal stripes and one has a zigzag pattern, and a fourth striped egg peeks in at the right edge. A daffodil stands behind her on the left and a tulip on the right, with grass blades around the scene and a daisy-style flower in each bottom corner. Her scalloped chest, wing and fanned tail feathers give kids lots of shapes to color. The patterned eggs are great for practicing stripes and dots, and the large areas work for crayons or markers. Sunny yellow for the daffodil and warm orange-brown for the hen would look good. It's a free printable for Easter morning or a spring classroom. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the chicken's head and body with soft cream, leaving the eye whites, beak area and flower centers for later.
- 2Fill the tail feathers and wing with caramel brown, working from the top of the tail down to the wing tips.
- 3Color the comb and wattles bright red, and the beak golden yellow.
- 4Paint the big eggs: use sky blue, light yellow and pale green stripes on the striped egg, coral pink zigzags on the middle egg, and lavender purple on the spotted egg.
- 5Add the daffodil petals in light yellow with a golden yellow center, the tulip in coral pink, and the flower petals and grass in leaf green and light green.
- 6Finish with the white parts: leave the eye whites, the egg dots and the flower petals white, and add the black details last if you like.
