Family Swimming and Splashing in Beach Waves

A smiling family of four is out enjoying the ocean. Mom, with her hair in a bun, holds a little girl in a flower-print swimsuit, and dad, with short tousled hair, grins beside them. A young boy in front leans into the water with splashes flying around him. Behind them on the shore are a sandcastle with a flag, a small bucket and shovel, a big beach umbrella, a beach bag, a towel, a seashell and a starfish. Out on the water you can spot a sailboat, a few seagulls, puffy clouds and a round sun. Wavy lines give kids lots of room to practice careful coloring. Turquoise and sky blue suit the waves, with yellow for the sun and sandy tan for the castle. This free printable is handy for summer lessons or quiet afternoons at home. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the water: fill the big waves in the foreground and middle with bright sky blue, and use ocean blue for the deeper darker waves at the bottom.
- 2Color the sky clouds in light sky blue, and fill the sun and the umbrella panels with golden yellow, adding orange and bright red stripes to the umbrella.
- 3Fill all skin areas, including the faces, arms, shoulders and legs, with peach skin, leaving the eye whites and the umbrella's white stripe unpainted.
- 4Color the hair: use dark brown for the man's hair, medium brown for the mother's bun and hair, and tan brown for the boy's hair.
- 5Add the swimsuits in hot pink, the sandcastle and its base in pale sand yellow, the beach hill in sage gray-green, and the beach towel in rose pink.
- 6Optional: Add pale blue foam and small splashes near the people for a bit of sparkle, and leave the white highlights on the water untouched.
