Perched on the brick hearth of a fireplace, a shaggy, floppy-eared creature flashes a big toothy grin and carries a tied-up sack over one shoulder. Its eyes are wide and glancing sideways, and its large furry feet point right at us, showing round paw pads. Three stockings hang along the mantel, one with polka dots, one with a star and one with stripes. At the edge of the mantel there's a sprig of holly with berries, and at the left a small potted Christmas tree stands with a star on top. The bricks and floor lines give patient colorers lots to do. Warm brown or soft blue would suit the fuzzy fur, red and green fit the stockings, and gray bricks help the character stand out. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big wooden floor planks at the bottom in warm brown, and the brick wall and hearth rows in the same warm brown, leaving the thin lines between bricks white.
- 2Fill the Grinch's head, arms, hands, and legs with lime green, leaving the white fur on his chest, belly, and shoulders untouched.
- 3Color the big sack and the sleeve tucked under his arm in bright red, plus the red patterned stocking on the left.
- 4Use forest green for the Christmas tree branches, ornaments, and the two feet pads, then color the flower pot in bright red and the stocking in lime green.
- 5Color the mantel ledge and the curved fireplace arch in cool gray, keeping the stocking cuffs white.
- 6Optional: add a little darker shading on the sack and the floor planks to give depth.
