Giraffe Chatting with a Zebra Friend

A tall, cheerful giraffe bends its long neck down to talk with a smaller zebra, and the two grin at each other. They stand in the grass under a big tree with a curving trunk and puffy leaf canopy, while a few leaves drift by. Small bushes and grass tufts fill the background and the ground by their feet. The giraffe has large rounded patches, a tufted tail, and little horns. The zebra has swirly stripes, a spiky mane, and a fluffy tail. Patches and stripes are easy to follow, so kids who like pattern work will enjoy it. Try golden yellow with warm brown patches for the giraffe, and either classic black and white or a rainbow mane for the zebra. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the giraffe's body, head, neck and legs with golden yellow, leaving the eye shines and the zebra's white stripes unpainted.
- 2Add caramel brown patches across the giraffe's body, neck and legs, and use chocolate brown for its horns and hooves.
- 3Color the tree trunk and branches with tree bark brown, then fill the leafy canopy, bushes and grass with leaf green, leaving the sky white.
- 4Paint the inside of both ears coral pink, the zebra's mane light gray, and the zebra's nose and mouth medium gray.
- 5Use charcoal gray for the zebra's dark stripes, tail tip and hooves, keeping the white areas of its body and legs bright.
- 6Optional: Add a little extra caramel brown or chocolate brown along the edges of the giraffe spots for a bit more depth.
