Paper Boat Girl With an Umbrella on the Pond
Coloring guide
In this one, a smiling little girl sits in a folded paper boat and holds a big open umbrella while rain falls around her. She wears a hooded raincoat and a flower clip in her shoulder-length hair, and her hands rest on the edge of the boat as she glances off to the side. The boat floats on a pond where ripples spread out from every raindrop. Two big-eyed dragonflies hover nearby, one at the upper left and one on the right, each trailing a dotted flight path. Lily pads and water lily blooms sit on the water, and tall grass grows along the edges. Crayons will do well on the umbrella panels and large lily pads, while markers suit the ripples and the flower clip. A yellow umbrella over soft blue water gives a cheerful rainy-day look. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big umbrella: color the top panels red, golden yellow, green and blue, leaving the umbrella pole and the thin edge lines white.
- 2Fill the girl's raincoat, hood and sleeves with golden yellow, and color her face and hands peach and cream.
- 3Color her hair warm brown, leaving a small white highlight streak near the top of her head.
- 4Paint the lily pads with grass green and the flowers with bubblegum pink, then add sky blue to the pond ripples and the rim of the paper boat.
- 5Color the grass at the left and right edges grass green, keeping the thin grass tips white, and give the dragonflies a pale blue wing tint.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading on the umbrella panels and the lily pads to make the colors pop.
