Penguin Family Strolling With Umbrellas in the Snow

Snow is coming down and three smiling penguins are out for a waddle, each one carrying its own polka dot umbrella. The biggest penguin heads up the left side, a medium one follows in the middle, and the smallest brings up the right, like a little penguin family on a walk. Back on a snowy hill you'll spot two igloos made of brick-style blocks, and round snowflakes are scattered across the sky. Soft mounds of snow run along the ground. Those big circles on the umbrellas are simple for preschoolers to fill in, and the igloo bricks give older kids something more detailed to chew on. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the snowy ground, the distant hills and the snow patches using very light blue, leaving the snowflake circles in the sky white.
- 2Color the two igloos with pale sky blue, leaving the small dark doorway area for later.
- 3Fill the big umbrella with bright red and the middle umbrella with golden yellow, keeping the polka dots white. Color the small umbrella grass green.
- 4Color the penguins' backs, heads, and flippers with charcoal gray, leave their white bellies and faces white, and use orange for the beaks and feet. Make the small penguin's flipper medium gray.
- 5Add dark red under the big umbrella, dark gold under the middle umbrella, and bright blue for the igloo doorway.
- 6Optional: Add a few darker lines on the penguins' gray sides and the umbrella undersides to give them a little depth.
