Little Bird Perched on an Elephant's Trunk

Coloring guide
This baby elephant stands on all four feet with its trunk curled high, and a tiny round bird sits right on the tip, looking back at its big friend. The elephant has large floppy ears, wide eyes glancing upward, an open happy mouth and a little tufted tail. Behind it, a simple tree with a puffy, cloud-shaped crown rises over its back, and small grass tufts sit in the bottom corners. Bold outlines and roomy shapes are easy for preschoolers and early elementary kids, and the large ears and belly are great for practicing staying inside the lines. Blue-gray suits the elephant, sunny yellow the bird, and fresh greens the tree and grass. This free printable is quick to download for a quiet afternoon or a classroom activity. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big gray areas: fill the elephant body, ears, trunk, and tail base with light gray, leaving the white eye shines and the leg highlight white.
- 2Color the tree foliage with grass green and the tree trunk and tail tuft with warm brown.
- 3Paint the little bird with sky blue on its head, wings, and tail, leaving the eye and beak area white.
- 4Add coral pink to the inside of the mouth and the far ear peeking out behind the trunk.
- 5Fill the toenails at the bottom of the feet with pale cream, keeping the gaps between them clean.
- 6Optional: add a little darker gray under the ears and along the trunk for a soft shadow, and leave the background white.
