A smiling little turtle jogs over a grassy hill with a kite in tow, and the whole page feels breezy and full of movement. Big sparkling eyes look up at the sky, the mouth is open in a happy grin, and there's a leaf-shaped tuft on its head and a striped belly. The round shell has a large spiral swirl that's fun to trace with a crayon. One hand holds the kite string. The diamond kite has crossed spars and a long tail with three little bows and a ribbon streamer. Three puffy clouds float behind, and grass tufts dot the ground. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the clouds in pale blue, leaving a little white shine on the big cloud at the top left.
- 2Fill the top and left kite panels with golden yellow, and the bottom kite panel with bright red, keeping the string white.
- 3Color the turtle's head, arms, legs, tail and the swirl of the shell in lime green, leaving the eye whites and the eye shine white.
- 4Shade the shell edge, the lower shell edge and the spikes on the head with grass green, then color the belly bands and feet claws in pale yellow.
- 5Fill the open mouth with coral pink and the upper part of the mouth with brick red.
- 6Add the bows in sky blue and orange, and finish the ribbon tail in bright red. Optional: add a little extra grass green on the shell edge for depth.
