Hatching Duck Peeking Out of a Cracked Egg

Coloring guide
A fluffy duckling pops out of a cracked eggshell, both tiny feathered hands resting on the jagged broken edge. Sparkling eyes, a wide open smile and a flat duck bill give it a curious, happy look, and a small tuft of feathers stands up on its head. The shell sits in a woven nest of criss-crossing straw, with two more whole eggs tucked in on the right. Outlines are clean and bold, with big open areas plus some small details, so younger kids can manage it and older ones can add texture. Soft yellow works for the downy fluff, orange for the bill, and warm browns and golds for the straw. Save it as a free PDF for a quiet creative break. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the chick's head, wings and body with lemon yellow, leaving the two eye whites and the small eye shine highlights white.
- 2Fill the beak with orange, and add soft pink inside the open mouth.
- 3Color the cracked eggshell pieces and both eggs with light blue, keeping the shell edges outlined in black.
- 4Fill the nest with golden tan, working across the straw strands so the nest looks woven.
- 5Leave the background white so the chick and eggs stand out clearly.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of light blue or golden tan along one side of each egg and the nest to give a little depth.
