Hiking Boots and Backpack Camping Gear Page
Coloring guide
A big camping backpack fills the top of this page, with a rolled-up sleeping mat strapped across it and a spiral drawn on the end of the roll. You'll see buckled straps, a front flap with a large buckle and a pocket on each side. In front are lace-up hiking boots with chunky treads, a water bottle with a loop on the cap, and a round compass with a star-shaped needle. Grass tufts and small pebbles are scattered along the ground. Shapes are big and lines are bold, so crayons or markers work fine for preschoolers and early elementary kids, while older kids can add detail to the boot laces and compass face. Olive green for the pack, brown for the boots and bright blue for the bottle is one idea. Download the free PDF for a classroom project or weekend craft. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the rolled sleeping mat on top of the backpack and fill it with leaf green, including both ends and the spiral center.
- 2Color the big backpack body, the front flap and the back strap in royal blue, leaving the small gap beside the boots white.
- 3Fill the side panels of the backpack with golden yellow, then add mocha brown to the small pocket tabs on the sides.
- 4Paint both hiking boots in caramel brown, add bright red to the heel tabs and tongues, and use charcoal gray for the soles and the lace areas.
- 5Color the water bottle in sky blue with a slate gray loop on top, and give the compass ring a bright red touch while leaving the compass face white. Optional: add a slightly darker shade of each color on one side of big areas for depth.
