Hovering Dragonfly With Pond Ripples and Reflection

Above a pond hovers a cheerful dragonfly with big round eyes, a little smile and two curly antennae. The tip of its long, segmented tail dips down to touch the water and sends out circular ripples, while a smaller upside-down dragonfly reflection shows on the surface below. Four large wings packed with vein lines offer lots of sections to fill in. On the right, a blooming water lily rests on a flat lily pad, and tall grass blades rise from the water on both sides with a few simple wave lines around them. Soft blues and greens would suit the wings, bright pink or yellow the lily, and a shimmery purple the dragonfly's body. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the big dragonfly wings with sky blue, leaving the thin vein lines unfilled so they stay dark.
- 2Fill the dragonfly head and thorax with lime green, leaving the two large round eyes white with only small black pupils.
- 3Color the striped tail with golden yellow and lime green in alternating segments, then add the tail tip in golden yellow.
- 4Use grass green for the lily pad and the tall grass blades on both sides of the pond.
- 5Fill the lily flower petals with rose pink on the outer ring and blush pink on the inner petals, keeping the small center stamens white.
- 6Finish with sky blue on the pond ripple rings and the bottom dragonfly's wings, then add a little extra blue on the water. Optional: Add a darker green shadow along one side of the lily pad for depth.
