Judo Kids Bowing on the Mat, a Martial Arts Greeting

Coloring guide
Many martial arts classes begin with a polite bow, and that's what a boy and girl are doing here as they face each other. Both are barefoot in loose wrap-style jackets and knotted belts. He has short, tousled hair, and she wears a high ponytail with a hair band. They stand on a puzzle-piece foam mat, and below each child a pair of sneakers is set neatly at the mat's edge. Small smiles keep the mood calm and friendly. It's a handy way to chat with kids about manners, taking turns and respecting a training partner. You could give the belts two different colors, like yellow and orange, then fill the mat pieces with blue or green. Download the free PDF and print a few extra copies. This fits right in with our Martial Arts coloring pages — see also Swimming and NHL / Hockey.

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the floor mat at the bottom with sky blue, using light back-and-forth strokes and leaving the gi outfits white.
- 2Color both heads of hair chestnut brown, including the girl's ponytail, and keep the small shine spots white.
- 3Paint both faces, hands, and bare feet peach, leaving the eye whites white.
- 4Color both belts and their knots golden yellow, adding the little tied ends at the sides.
- 5Optional: add a slightly darker brown along the underside of the hair for a bit of depth.
