Koala Reaching Up a Tree Trunk for Leaves

Coloring guide
This happy koala has big fluffy round ears and a wide open-mouth smile. One arm stretches up toward a eucalyptus branch and the other grips the bark of a thick trunk. Its feet hold on near the bottom of the trunk, and its eyes look up at the leaves as if it's about to grab one. Overhead, long pointed eucalyptus leaves, buds and spiky little blossoms hang from the branch. In the lower left corner there's a rounded bush and a few tufts of grass. Bold, clean outlines and roomy spaces suit young children, while the fur texture and bark lines give older kids something to work on. Try soft gray fur, a darker gray nose and fresh greens for the leaves. Grab the free PDF and print it at home for an easy afternoon activity. This fits right in with our Koala coloring pages — see also Chameleon and Zebra.

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the koala's body, head, arms, ears and tail in warm gray, leaving the eye whites and the flower clusters white.
- 2Fill the tree trunk and the twigs with tree brown, following the bark lines as you go.
- 3Color all the eucalyptus leaves in leaf green, then add light green to a few leaves near the top for variety.
- 4Use dark charcoal for the koala's nose, the small tail and the pupils, and rose pink for the open mouth.
- 5Optional: Fill the inner ear with pale peach and the top strip behind the leaves with olive khaki, then add a few darker strokes on the trunk for shading.
