Lantern and Butterflies on a Camping Stump
Coloring guide
A classic camping lantern is the star here, with a tall curved handle, a rounded top cap and a small flame flickering inside a short candle. It sits on a wide tree stump that has ring lines on top and bark lines down the sides. Three smiling butterflies flutter around it: one at the upper left, one on the right and one at the lower left. Each has round spots on its wings and curly antennae. Thick outlines and roomy shapes keep this free printable friendly for little hands, and the lantern's big sections are good practice for staying inside the lines. Sunny yellow and orange for the flame, plus a deep green or red lantern body, will make the glow stand out. Let the butterflies be as bright and mixed-up as you like. - 1Color the stump base with warm brown and the stump top with sandy tan, leaving the thin ring lines light.
- 2Fill the lantern's top cap, base and knob with cherry red, and the bands around the lantern with golden yellow.
- 3Color the glass panels and the three butterfly wings with sky blue, leaving the small round spots on the wings white.
- 4Color the handle and frame bars with chestnut brown, then add the flame in golden yellow with an orange center and a cream candle.
- 5Fill the butterfly bodies with lemon yellow, add the stripes in golden yellow, and keep the eyes white.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading on the lower base and stump edge to make the lantern look more rounded.
