Caught mid-leap with all four paws off the ground, this armored tiger snarls with its mouth wide open and sharp teeth showing. Rather than fur, its shoulders, chest, back and legs are made of layered metal-looking plates, and a row of long blade-like spikes runs down the spine. The tail curls up behind in big banded segments, and each paw has detailed claws. There's no background at all, so the creature gets the whole page. Kids who love robots, big cats or Bakugan-style battle beasts will probably go for this one. Bright orange and black would work on the tail bands and face, with silver or metallic blue on the armor. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big body areas: color the haunch, back armor plates and tail in bright yellow, leaving the thin black lines and the white highlight stripes on the tail untouched.
- 2Fill the large back plates, shoulder pads, neck and head armor with orange, working around the white highlight curves so they stay bright.
- 3Color the long back spikes and ear spikes with golden yellow, keeping the tips of the spikes as clean white paper if you like.
- 4Add the dark slate gray chest plate, flank and leg bands, and the steel gray and medium gray areas on the legs and lower chest.
- 5Fill the front and hind paws with light gray and olive tan, then add sky blue to the leg panels and crimson red to the small shoulder accent.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading on the belly and under the legs with a deeper orange or dark brown to make the tiger look more three-dimensional.
