Little Bat Peeking Out of a Tree Hollow

Coloring guide
Here's a grinning baby bat looking out from a round hollow in a big tree trunk, with its little clawed hands resting along the bottom edge of the opening. It has large pointed ears, big shiny eyes, a tiny pig-like nose, a happy open mouth with one small fang, and a tuft of fur on top of its head. You can see folded wings behind its shoulders. On either side of the trunk hover two cheerful firefly-style bugs with antennae, wings and little glow marks. Bold bark lines run down the tree, a swirly knot sits near the bottom, and leafy branches fill the corners. The big shapes are easy for small hands to color in. Deep purple or soft gray would suit the bat, with warm browns for the bark and bright yellow for the glowing bugs. Download it as a free PDF for a fun afternoon activity. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the round hollow behind the bat with dark brown, and color the tree branches at the top and the trunk parts with warm brown.
- 2Color the bat's face, paws and the outer wings in dusty mauve, then use dusky plum for the darker wing edges.
- 3Color the inside of both ears and the bat's nose with soft pink, and add the open mouth in coral red, leaving the big eyes white.
- 4Fill all the leaves and their stems with leaf green, working from the big leaves toward the small ones.
- 5Color the two bees' wings pale sky blue, their bodies bright yellow and their stripes amber orange, keeping the bee faces white.
- 6Optional: add a little shading on the trunk and leaves with a slightly darker shade of the same color to make them look more rounded.
