Tiny Flower Castle with a Fairy and Her Star Wand

Zooming through the air, a smiling little fairy with a hair bun and a flower tucked into it holds a sparkling star-tipped wand over a tiny castle. That castle sits right inside the petals of a big tulip-style flower, with three pointed towers, small flags on top, arched windows, a front door and round bushes at its base. Three butterflies with patterned wings flutter around, and the flower's leaves curve out at the bottom. Bold lines and roomy shapes make it work well for preschoolers and early elementary kids with crayons or chunky markers. A soft lavender or pink would suit the fairy's dress and wings, and your child can pick whatever bright colors they like for the butterflies. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the tulip petals in rose pink, leaving the back petals a little lighter if you like, and the front petals in the same shade.
- 2Color the two leaves and the stem and the bushes in leaf green, then the grass patch at the base of the castle.
- 3Fill the castle walls and towers with cream, and color the roofs in royal purple, leaving the small windows and the door for later.
- 4Paint the fairy's skin peach, her dress in rose pink, and her top and bun in warm brown with a hot pink flower on her hair.
- 5Color the fairy's wings and the butterflies in sky blue and lavender, and the wand star in lemon yellow, leaving the butterfly antennae and small highlights white.
- 6Finish with the flags in hot pink, the door in amber orange, and the windows in sky blue. Optional: add a little darker shading on the tulip petals for depth.
