Sitting at the edge of a small pond, a round-faced baby panda reaches one front paw down to touch the water, and ripples spread across the surface. Its head tips down with a happy smile, big shiny eyes and round ears. Tall bamboo stalks with long pointed leaves rise on both sides of the page, and leafy fern-like plants sit beside the panda. Smooth rocks of different sizes line the water's edge and rest in the pond. Large open shapes are easy for young children, while the ripples and leaves give older kids small details to fill in. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the light gray rocks and stones around the pond, leaving the edges neat.
- 2Fill the panda's body, arms, legs, and paws with charcoal gray, keeping the face and head white.
- 3Color the two eye patches charcoal gray, leaving the small white shine spots in the eyes untouched.
- 4Paint the inside of both ears soft pink and the bamboo stalks light green, adding leaf green to the bamboo leaves and grass.
- 5Color the ferns and leafy plants with light green and leaf green, then fill the pond water with sky blue.
- 6Optional: Add a few diagonal pencil-style lines on the dark gray parts for a sketchy texture, and leave the background white.
