Log Cabin Night with a Snowman and Snowflakes

A cozy log cabin sits at the center of this winter night scene. Its roof is covered in snow, and a stone chimney sends up a curly line of smoke. A wreath hangs on the front door, and a winding path leads to the steps. On the right is a tall Christmas tree with a star on top, beaded garlands and round ornaments. At the lower left, a smiling snowman in a knit hat and striped scarf waves both stick arms. Snowflakes of many shapes fall from the sky, and a smiling crescent moon watches from the corner. Mountains, pine trees, a wooden fence and berry bushes fill the background. A bright red cabin door and a rainbow-striped scarf on the snowman would be fun. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the log cabin walls, the chimney, and the wooden door and window boxes in warm brown, leaving the snowy roof, window frames, and porch roof white.
- 2Color the tall Christmas tree and the pine trees on both sides in forest green and deep teal, with sage green for the darker lower branches.
- 3Fill the mountains in slate blue and the sky star in sky blue, then add the golden yellow star on top of the Christmas tree.
- 4Shade the snowy path, the snow drifts, and the sky patches in ice blue, leaving the snowman face, the snowy ground, and the snow highlights white.
- 5Finish with the snowman scarf in bright red and forest green, the tree ornaments in mint green and light gray, and the fence rails in warm brown.
- 6Optional: add a little darker blue along the bottom of the snow drifts and the path to make the snow look more three-dimensional.
