A large mother bird perches on a tree branch and looks down at three fluffy chicks in a woven twig nest. Every chick has its beak wide open, waiting for a meal. Mom has a round head, a big friendly eye, a wing marked with feather lines and a long tail. The nest is made of lots of criss-crossing sticks, which gives little hands plenty of texture to work on, and it sits in the fork of a thick tree trunk. Two clusters of five-petal blossoms, with leaves and a bud, decorate the corners. Younger kids will enjoy the wide shapes on the birds, while older ones can take on the nest and feather details. Soft pink blossoms, warm brown twigs and a bright blue or yellow mother bird make a good combo. Print this sheet at home for kids and coloring fans of all ages. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the bird: color the big body, wings and tail in sky blue, and the chicks' right chick in sky blue too, leaving the eye whites bright white.
- 2Color the two darker wing feathers and the darker tail feathers in royal blue to add depth to the mama bird.
- 3Fill the chubby chicks' bodies in cream, and add a little sky blue on the wing of the right chick.
- 4Color the tree trunk and branches in medium brown, then use dark brown for the lines and knots of the bark.
- 5Color the nest in light brown, adding darker brown twigs on the edges, and fill the flowers in soft pink with a golden tan center.
- 6Finish with leaf green on the leaves and a golden yellow beak. Optional: Leave a few small highlights white on the nest and flowers for a sunny look.
